We are sorry to hear that your solar panel system is having trouble, and we can help in most cases.
In general, we cannot service another solar installer’s system if they are still in business. We can help if the installation company is no longer around or is not responsive.
Once we or any other installer touches another company's system, the installation warranty is immediately void.
You may be able to compel the original installer to service your system by contacting the California Contractor's Board at CSLB.gov. However, if we can help, we would like to get your system back up and running.
We do charge $250 for a site visit (longer travel fees may apply), and that generally includes a diagnostic of the issue and a plan to get the system back up and working.
To get started please fill out the following form with as much information as possible:
With that information, we should be able to diagnose the issue and work with the manufacturer to replace or repair the solar equipment.
Once the equipment is replaced or repaired, we do charge $250 to transfer the system to our monitoring portal and then $150 per year to proactively monitor the system for any issues going forward.
Common signs include a significant drop in energy production, unexpected increases in electricity bills, error messages on the inverter, physical damage to panels (such as cracks or discoloration), or a complete system shutdown. Regular monitoring can help detect issues early, preventing more extensive damage.
It’s recommended to have your solar system inspected annually. Routine maintenance, such as checking the inverter, can help ensure optimal performance and identify potential issues before they become major problems.
If you notice that your solar system is underperforming, first check your monitoring system for any error codes or messages. Ensure that the panels are clean and free from debris or shading. If the problem persists, contact a professional solar repair service to diagnose and fix the issue.
Minor issues, such as loose wiring or inverter problems, can often be repaired. However, if a solar panel is physically damaged (e.g., cracked or shattered), it might need to be replaced. A professional technician can assess the damage and recommend the best course of action.
Most solar panels come with a manufacturer’s warranty that covers defects and performance issues, typically for 20-25 years. Inverters usually have a shorter warranty, often around 10-15 years. Labor warranties provided by the installer may cover certain repairs, but coverage varies, so it's important to review your warranty documents.
The cost of solar repairs can vary widely depending on the nature of the problem. Minor repairs, such as replacing a fuse or fixing wiring, might cost a few hundred dollars. More significant repairs, such as replacing an inverter or damaged panels, can cost several thousand dollars. It's best to get a quote from a professional after a thorough inspection.
While some basic maintenance tasks, like cleaning the panels, can be done by the homeowner, most repairs should be handled by a qualified solar technician. Solar systems involve complex electrical components and high voltages, which can be dangerous without proper training and equipment.
Common causes include inverter failures, wiring issues, shading or dirt on the panels, physical damage from weather events, and degradation of the panels over time. Regular maintenance and prompt repairs can help prevent many of these issues.
If your solar system is damaged in a storm, it’s important to have it inspected by a professional as soon as possible. Avoid touching or attempting to repair any components yourself, especially if there is visible damage. Your homeowner’s insurance may cover storm damage, so check with your insurer as well.
Most solar installers do not like to work on systems installed by other companies as there are often issues of workmanship liability. However, if the original installer is out of business or has released the client from the installation warranty, it is possible for another installer to service the system.
