Brentwood, California

The City of Brentwood, situated 55 miles east of San Francisco, is a beautiful and attractive community for both residents and businesses. Brentwood was founded in 1948 and is located in the far eastern Contra Costa County area of the San Francisco Bay Area. The group has a long history in the cultivation of agriculture and farming. This tradition continues today, even with the population growth of the City over the past few years. Farms in the region are brimming with farmers looking for new stone fruits, maize and cherries in the late spring and summer months.

The incorporated area of the City currently amounts to 14.8 square miles (9,502 acres), with a total of 17.4 square miles (11,129 acres) of jurisdiction. The City offers a full range of services including Police, Parks and Recreation, Public Works, Economic Development, Planning, Infrastructure, Code Enforcement, Housing and Administrative General Programs. The East Contra Costa Fire Protection District provides fire protection services to the City of Brentwood. The City operates public water and wastewater services and a recycling system, as well as waste collection and disposal.

Public schools

Brentwood’s public education system has about 7 primary, 3 middle, and 4 high schools, Independence High School, Freedom High School, and Heritage High School. The city is served by the Unified School District of Brentwood, the Knightsen School District and the Liberty City High School District. Brentwood Union School board operates on a traditional school calendar that has been updated. There are many schools in the Brentwood Union School District, classified as a California Distinguished School. Approximately five percent of California schools receive this honor.

Heritage High School includes a full range of Advanced Placement courses and the highest ranking of the area’s Academic Performance Index (API), excellent performing arts programs, and championship athletic teams. Heritage is also a solar center. The 2,38 kW photovoltaic project installed at Heritage High School is designed to demonstrate the benefits and opportunities of renewable energy technology and provide a valuable learning tool for both students and the community.

Economy

Agriculture remains important to the local economy, but it has decreased in relative importance as the area has become more suburban. Local wineries such as Bloomfield, Tamayo, and Hannah Nicole have risen in sales and prestige after winning numerous awards at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition and the California State Fair in recent years. In the northeastern part of the city there is no heavy industry and only a small light industrial area. Brentwood experienced a strong economic boom between 2000 and 2008.
